Non-shell Unstable Particles in Thermal Field Theory

چکیده

Using (nonrigorous) operator-algebraic and group-theoretic techniques the particle structure of interacting real-time thermal field theory is investigated. A description in terms of elementary unstable entities without a dispersion relation is arrived at. The asymptotic fields are found to be two-parameter generalized free fields. Contact with the Licht-field description of on-shell unstable particles is thereby achieved. Poincar6-symmetry breaking and the rearrangement of spin to helicity at finite temperature are fully discussed and incorporated. A unique thermal Gell-Mann/Low formula is obtained. Feynman rules and renormalization conditions pertaining to non-shell thermal particles are given. Dissipation thereby naturally emerges. All relevant esoteric mathematics is explained. © 1988 Academic Press, Inc.
